31st May: World No Tobacco Day
Once again, FCC endorses the World No Tobacco Day, celebrated across the globe on 31st May. The aim is to raise awareness of the health risks associated with smoking and to promote the implementation of effective public policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
Giving up smoking leads to a substantial improvement in the quality of life in terms of both health and cost. Recovering lost lung capacity, enhancing your sense of taste and smell, improving your skin and dental health, and radically reducing the chances of developing health disorders in the cardiorespiratory system are just some of the important benefits of giving up smoking highlighted by the World Health Organisation.
FCC also endorses the campaign launched by the WHO and the Secretariat of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which call on all countries to prepare for plain packaging of tobacco products. Plain packaging is an important measure in reducing consumer demand as it decreases the attractiveness of tobacco products, restricts the use of packets as advertising media to promote smoking, restricts misleading packaging and labelling, and increases the effectiveness of displaying health warnings.
