Close to 2,000 students attended FCC's workshops in 2011
FCC Group organised its children's educational project on sustainability and environmental best practices, entitled "The Earth's future", during the 2010/2011 academic year. This initiative, which also took place last year, is part of FCC's corporate social responsibility strategy.
FCC Group considers education to be a critical driver of communities' economic development and social progress. Accordingly, the Citizen Services group has made education a basic line of action in its commitment to society, with the expertise and experience of its employees as its main asset for teaching the value of "taking care of the environment."
This past year, three new schools in the Madrid region participated in FCC's Environmental Workshop, specifically Orvalle, Mater Salvatoris and El Parque. The Sagrados Corazones school has been participating since the previous year.
Close to two thousand students participated in the FCC workshops in 2011. The sessions, which were led by FCC specialists in sustainability, aim to raise children's awareness about the environmental impact of day-to-day life and to teach them the consequences of climate change and how to improve and preserve the environment.
Javier López-Galiacho, FCC's Head of Corporate Responsibility, was one of the workshop teachers: "We organised this initiative because we are certain that people must be taught to value sustainability and environmental preservation at an early age or they will never learn to appreciate it."
The programme, which also seeks to reach students' families, is part of a communication campaign focused on good habits, personified by a cartoon about FCC's Green Commando, whose lead characters are Felix, Carla and Camilo.
