Two FCC projects on sustainability in cities, recognised by Forética
Through its Water and Environment divisions, FCC has participated in the Sustainable Life in Cities Initiative (urban sustainability - challenges and opportunities for companies) promoted by a leading Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) institution such as Forética. The purpose of this initiative is to publicise the best practices in CSR matters connected with urban sustainability from the environmental and social perspectives.
As a provider of services in urban areas, FCC includes the connection to citizens as one of its strategic pillars. It aims to provide innovative solutions that promote the transformation of cities and a high level of well-being for persons. With this vision, it is working in multiple projects across its business divisions.
Within this initiative, Forética has recognised the contribution of value and innovation in sustainability of two FCC Group projects.
The FCC Medio Ambiente SEEEUS® project and FCC Aqualia’s Communication for the Pitiusas project were chosen together with another 59 initiatives from a total universe of 520 presented by the various participating organisations such as companies, public bodies, ONGs, educational institutions and other Spanish organisations.
The SEEEUS® project (System for Environmental Efficiency Evaluation of Urban Services) presented by FCC Medio Ambiente is an innovative system based on ICT for monitoring, calculating and communicating environmental information.
With SEEEUS®, FCC offers its clients a new environmental consultancy service supported with a tool developed internally with scientific collaboration and verified by third parties. Through this, the relevant indicators (KPIs) are generated to assess and improve the efficiency of the environmental management of services.
This ensures the responsible use of energy and water resources, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the production of waste.
This tool will provide groups of interest (employees, clients, suppliers and the public) with knowledge of the progress achieved in complying with the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals in addressing climate change (SDG 13) and the development of sustainable communities (SDG11).
Forética has also highlighted FCC Aqualia for its Plan for Communication in Las Pitiusas to increase awareness on the responsible use of water in these islands, which it started in 2015 and which will run until 2020.
The action was designed as a proactive strategy, actively involving the public, tourists, authorities and communications media.
As part of the “Vive la Isla, Cuida el Agua” awareness campaign, leaflets were distributed with advice for responsible water consumption in hotels, municipal installations and FCC Aqualia offices. These were also published by insertions in local media and printed on the back of the water bills for clients in Ibiza and Formentera.
