The Sierra de Barbanza community complex in La Coruña leads Spain in the re-use of waste
According to data published by the La Voz de Galicia newspaper and the interview on the radio station Voz with Jacobo Patiño, industrial director of the Barbanza environmental complex, last year the Lousame installations, which serve more than 86,000 inhabitants in nine municipalities, had good results in the recovery of cardboard (62%) and light packages (52%) and also improved its figures for the organic fraction (35% compared to the average in Galicia of 5%).
Thus, noted the newspaper, it is increasingly closer to the objective set by the state waste framework plan which states that this percentage must reach 50% in 2020. Another feature of the plant is the manufacture of compost, since of every 100 kg of waste handled in the environmental complex in 2016, 16 were recovered for organic fertiliser.
In the interview, Jacobo Patiño also stressed the importance of public collaboration to improve the recovery indices.
All these strengths will also be mentioned tomorrow in the Foro Voz, organised by the La Voz de Galicia newspaper, in collaboration with FCC Medio Ambiente and the councils in the area.
Also participating in this forum, entitled “Recycling is saving,” are Jacobo Patiño, industrial director of the Barbanza environmental complex, and Marta Domínguez, process technician in the plant and responsible for quality, environment and environmental education.
