The award ceremony was held on 17 June at the Association of Architects headquarters in Madrid. Her daughter, Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz, collected the award on her behalf.

This distinction recognises the achievements of Esther Koplowitz, who heads the Foundation that bears her name and is dedicated to activities such as building and maintaining nursing homes; providing mental health assistance to minors, the sick and the disadvantaged; contributing to scientific research; and granting scholarships for studies and research. The Esther Koplowitz Foundation is responsible for two nursing homes in Madrid and Barcelona; a home for elderly people with mental disabilities in Valencia; the Esther Koplowitz Biomedical Research Centre in Barcelona; donating the Da Vinci surgical robot to Hospital Clínico San Carlos, in Madrid; and building and outfitting the day centre and home for people with cerebral palsy, run by Fundación Nido and Asociación El Despertar.

These awards are an initiative of the Foundation created by Caser to encourage the promotion and development of all activities related to long-term care.
