FCC obtains Healthy Workplace certification
FCC Environment Area's Catalonia II Unit is the first company to obtain Healthy Workplace Certification from among all Spanish environmental services companies, granted by Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR). The certificate was collected by Jesús Padullés Caba, the Unit Manager, at an event held at AENOR's headquarters.
This certification recognizes that Catalonia II has included in all of its contracts a management system that promotes and protects safety, health and well-being of employees, both in and outside of the workplace, as well as the sustainability of the work environment, in accordance with the Healthy Workplace Model.
This pioneering model, which is based on the objectives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and on the continuous improvement methodology, defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and whose main objective is to promote healthy workplaces.
Regardless of sector and company size, this model aims to reduce accident and absenteeism indices; increase companies' productivity, competitiveness and sustainability; and enhance the living standards of society in general by improving employees' health and well-being.
Companies must meet the requirements of the Healthy Company Model and undergo an audit to obtain this certification. To this end, they must identify the specific risk factors that influence their workplace with a view to eliminating, reducing or controlling them. This model promotes, among other issues, a healthy diet, sports, and healthy lifestyle habits, even outside of working hours.
The Healthy Workplace model has been designed by AENOR in cooperation with the European Institute of Health and Social Welfare (which works with the WHO in Spain) and FREMAP insurance company, to meet the demand of several large companies working on this issue, among which FCC is a pioneer.
