The contract awarded in the UK, where the FCC Group has been providing environmental services since 1989, covers municipal waste collection, selective collection and street cleansing for Barrow in Furness District Council, in Cumbria. The contract is worth £12 million (approximately €14.3 million).

The contract term is seven years from 1 April 2017, with the option of a further seven-year extension. The company will also make an investment of nearly £1.5 million (€1.8 million).

Barrow in Furness is one of six districts in the county of Cumbria. It has a population of more than 71,000 with 33,500 households.

This new contract increases FCC’s market share in the county, where it has been providing municipal services for more than 20 years.

In the Czech Republic, FCC Environment is continuing to expand, having recently won an eight-year contract, through the subsidiary FCC Environment CEE, for municipal waste collection, selective collection, street cleansing and road maintenance, maintenance of parks and gardens and the management and maintenance of cemeteries in the city of Prostejov, in the Moravia region.

This contract award, which boosts the Public Services Group’s portfolio by a further €27.7 million, will require an investment of €2.5 million.
 
This FCC subsidiary has been providing municipal services for ten years now, and this new contract demonstrates the trust placed by Prostejov Council in the Services Group as a reliable partner with proven experience, using the most innovative technology and committed to protecting the environment, while providing efficient, high-quality services to improve local people’s lives.  

 
First stone

A few days ago, FCC Environment, through its subsidiary FCC Environment UK, laid the first Stone to build a new state-of-the-art recycling  and waste to energy  plant to serve the Edinburgh and Midlothian area. FCC Environment UK is in charge of the design, financing and construction of the facility and will subsequently operate it for 25 years. This contract reached financial close last October, and increases FCC’s backlog for £450 million (approximately €535 million).

The plant, scheduled to be operational by April 2019, will treat around 135,000 tonnes of household waste and a further 20,000 tonnes of commercial waste every year. It will also generate enough electricity to satisfy the energy demands of about 32,000 households.
