FCC Medio Ambiente holds an open day at the la Resina waste collection centre (Madrid) for children and relatives of employees
The Madrid office of FCC Medio Ambiente held an open day at the La Resina waste collection centre last Sunday, 22 May. Throughout the morning, children and relatives of employees of the Madrid rubbish collection service experienced a full day of environmental education and awareness-building.
This activity forms part of the ‘Healthy Business’ campaign launched by the Madrid regional office. All the activities included in the project are aimed at facilitating and supporting a healthy life style, such as healthy eating, physical exercise and health care, questions that are included in our Citizen Services Group’s corporate policies that aim to improve the work environment and to promote greater health.
One of the highlights among the activities that took place during the open day was the children's workshop on road safety and practical use of the bicycle, led by Carlos Sastre, winner of the 2008 Tour de France. Similarly, families all had great fun at the environmental workshop on the Waste Cycle, given by FCC staff, which involved children’s games and educational videos on waste management and the waste chain, from street collection to its subsequent conditioning.
Furthermore, attendees were able to take a look back at the history of FCC in waste management, thanks to an exhibition of photographs that illustrated clearly how dust carts and waste collection vehicles have evolved over the years. They were also given a hands-on view of today’s modern rubbish collection lorries that operate in the central area of Madrid, and to get aboard for a photo.
On top of that, the youngest children had great fun playing on the bouncy castle that was set up in the centre, and to round off the morning, everybody received a small gift as a souvenir of the day.
