FCC reaffirms its commitment to combating domestic violence

The event was chaired by Ana Mato, Spain's Minister for Health, Social Services and Equality; other attendees included Juan Manuel Moreno, State Secretary for Social Services and Equality, and Blanca Hernández, the central government delegate for Domestic Violence.

FCC has been cooperating for the last two years with the Ministry for Health, Social Services and Equality, with which it signed a collaboration agreement to enhance awareness raising and job placement; later, the company signed similar agreements with entities specialised in services for, and hiring of, disadvantaged groups, namely, the Integra Foundation and the Spanish Red Cross.

During the event, Mato underlined the seriousness of the fact that just 2 of the 22 female mortal victims of domestic violence this year had filed an abuse claim, which she maintained was due, in many cases, to women's lack of economic independence to exit the situation.

Ms Mato and Ms Hernández recognised in particular the fundamental role of the companies that have been collaborating on this project, and of those that have joined the initiative this year, in view of the need for female victims of domestic violence to restore their lives. They also emphasized the importance of raising awareness in society and informing about the kind of behaviour that may lead to domestic violence.

In addition to FCC, the other companies which had already signed the agreement and which where given the signatory letter included Acciona, CEPSA, Confesal, Curves International of Spain, EROSKI, Fehrcarem, Inditex, Grupo AMMA, Grupo EULEN, Sacyr Vallehermoso and Servicios Securitas.

The following businesses joined the "Companies for a society free of domestic violence" initiative: Alcampo, BBVA, British Telecom, Centros Comerciales Carrefour, El Corte Inglés, Endesa, Federación de Hostelería, la Caixa Foundation, Mahou-San Miguel Group, Ayre Hoteles, Iberdrola, IKEA, Indra, Mango, Marco Aldany, NH Hotels, Red Eléctrica, REPSOL, Sodexo, Supermercados Simply, Telefónica and Unión Cerrajeros de Seguridad.
