Francisco Esteban, Director of I&T at FCC Construcción appointed new Chairman of the Technical Association of Ports and Coasts

Francisco Esteban Lefler, Director of Innovation and Technology at FCC Construcción, has been appointed Chairman of the Technical Association of Ports and Coasts, simultaneously taking over the Chairmanship of the Spanish National Section of PIANC (World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure) for the next four years.

The appointment took place at the General Assembly which was held at the headquarters of the Spanish National Ports Authority in Madrid. Additionally, the director of the Citizen Services Group, who has extensive experience in maritime works, has recently been awarded by the Japan Port and Harbour Association for disseminating the report –published by MarCom, PIANC Maritime Commission– on how the tsunami of 11 March 2011 affected the country's ports.

The ATPYC (Technical Association of Ports and Coasts) was founded in 1999, incorporating the responsibilities of the Spanish Section of PIANC which had formerly been serving as a government delegation of the current Ministry of Public Works Since the day it was founded, FCC Construcción has been a corporate partner.

Esteben Lefler is a Civil Engineering graduate from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. His career since has been focused on the Ministry of Defence in the Management of Naval Military Constructions, the Central Transmissions Pool and the Directorate-General of Infrastructure, in which he eventually became the Manager of NATO Infrastructure and Environmental Protection.

Throughout 1993, he worked in Technical Management at the Spanish Ports Authority where he served in the capacity of manager in the Project Department. A year later he joined FCC Construcción Technical Services as Head of Maritime Works Department. Since then he has formed part of the management team in different departments, such as Maritime Works and Civil Works Support; Technical Service of FCC Construcción Technical Management; and the Department of Innovation and Technology (made up of the R&D&I Service and the Departments of Marine Works, Hydraulic Works, Materials Technology and Technical Videos and Reports).

He also participated as guest speaker in many conferences, congresses and seminars devoted to innovation in the construction sector (infrastructure and building) both nationally and internationally.
