"FCC and Barcelona's sewer network, 1911-2011" exhibition, a huge success

The "FCC and Barcelona's sewer network, 1911-2011" exhibition, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the company's contract with the city, was closed on 19 January.

This free exhibit, at Sala Ciutat near Barcelona's town hall, ran from 7 November 2011 to 19 January 2012 and offered a historical look at the last 100 years in Barcelona through the development of its sewer network. FCC preserved numerous important historical objects over the last century, such as machinery and structural elements of the network, all of which bear witness to efforts to improve the living conditions of the people of Barcelona at the time.

Close to 4,000 people toured the exhibition, making it Sala Ciutat's second most popular display in 2011. FCC Environment staff at the venue provided over 350 guided tours and distributed 2,075 pamphlets in a range of languages.

The exhibition was rated very highly by visitors, who enjoyed the opportunity to get a closer look at less well-known infrastructure and machinery, such as the "Patentada" cart, which dates back to 1911, and a video tour of the sewer.
