Mr Revuelta discussed how the current situation is the result of global events, and that 2010 would be a year of transition between the great recession of 2009 and the incipient recovery.

He went on to comment that society needs technological progress to move forward, and that human principles, values and behaviours remain unchanged.

The two largest economic powers at the moment are the US and China, with the latter growing quickly, and emerging countries are not far behind. Mr Revuelta expressed concern over Europe's waning role in the global economy.

He illustrated his themes by handing out articles and photos that capture the economic changes taking place.
