Aqualia takes home another international award
Other projects short-listed for this award included the Acciona plant in Mundaring, Australia; the United Utilities WWTP in Muharraq, Bahrain; and the IDE Technologies desalination plant in Soreq, Israel.
The Water Deal of the Year 2012 award, in recognition of the financial structure of the El Realito project, in Mexico, was presented to Aqualia at a ceremony in Rome. Aqualia also received an award for El Realito from Project Finance magazine (Euromoney) a few months ago, and has been short-listed for the magazine's Partnership Awards, which will be presented in London on 31 May.
The Global Water Intelligence Awards, the most important distinctions for the industry worldwide, are presented every year during a series of conferences which bring together leading players in the sector. This year's prizes were presented by Craig Venter, a scientist and winner of the Prince of Asturias Award for his research on the human genome. The award was collected by Miguel Jurado, Sub-director General of Development and International, on behalf of Aqualia. Mr Jurado also chaired a round table discussion entitled "New challenges in Central and Eastern Europe."
Aqualia's rivals in the Water Deal of the Year category included the Muharraq WWTP, Bahrain; the desalination plant in Soreq, Israel; and the Mundaring plant in Australia, in which ACCIONA Agua is a participant and which came in second.
Winners in other categories included Veolia, General Electric and CH2M Hill.
