Six FCC Construcción pilot projects ready to work with the new cost control tool
In the future, the program will be used on all works in the Company with the aim of controlling 100% of the direct operation costs from the beginning of May onwards.
The Control Unit is in charge of providing the necessary training to the managers of selected works teams who met this week for an information day to finalise the details.
The employees on these works will test the cost control tool when it is ready to check that it works correctly.
Implementing the new tool involves the works team (foremen, production managers, heads of administration), rigorously carrying out cost allocations and setting up a detailed catalogue of operations to control costs. The site managers will then receive a monthly report on the actual cost and a comparison of the actual unit cost with the estimated unit cost of each operation. This information is very valuable both for acting on our works and for gathering company knowledge and having our own cost references that can be used in future bids.
The six pilot works mentioned are: the section of the motorway of the Vallirana turnoff (Barcelona), the San Claudio water treatment plant (Asturias), "Montealiso" housing (Madrid), Setúbal - Matinsa road maintenance (Portugal), the AVE platform between Arroyo de la Charca and Grimaldo (Caceres) and installing FCC Industrial networks (Madrid). These are works fully carried out by FCC or managed joint ventures.
When the trial phase for the latter is over, we will then begin to roll it out in the rest of the equivalent works (works carried out by FCC and managed joint ventures). In the information day held this week, Vicente Mohedano, General Manager of FCC Construcción, highlighted the role that the chosen pilot works are going to have in the development of the tool and how they will contribute to the accuracy of the information on the aforementioned.
The information on the new cost control methodology for operations began in November 2014 and until now, the Control Unit has trained almost 400 employees from most areas of FCC Construcción.
