A waste collection colleague in Zaragoza assists an 80 year old elderly woman
Gonzalo Cacho Cacho, FCC Medio Ambiente employee in Zaragoza, is a clear example of putting our Citizen Services concept into practice. Our colleague assisted an 80 year old woman in Zaragoza who was suffering from the heat.
In the early morning between 29 and 30 July, Cacho was driving through an uninhabited area of Zaragoza after collecting waste from the Clinical Hospital of Zaragoza. An 80 year old lady wandered onto the road and Gonzalo had to dodge here. Surprised that this elderly lady, named Crisanta, was alone in a place like that, he decided to turn around and stop to speak to her.
Gonzalo stated that the woman seemed disorientated and had no documentation. According to what Crisanta told him, she had spent several hours waiting on a train, given that the one she had arrived on had broken down. However, in this area in the outskirts of Zaragoza there are no train or bus stations, and the nearest ones to be found are close to 5 kilometres away. So, Cacho decided to call the police, who then took care of Crisanta.
This is not the first time that 60 year old Gonzalo has rescued someone. In his 23 year career working night shifts at FCC, he ensures that he has come across other similar situations. He points out that once he came across an injured man, whom he bandaged and took to the High Care Unit. Thanks to his help, that man did not suffer more serious consequences, according to what doctors at the hospital told him afterwards. "99.9% of my colleagues stop to help people in these situations", says Cacho.
Gonzalo is very happy to have been able to help this elderly lady and has received many accolades and congratulatory messages for his act.
