Solidarity with the city of Lorca, Murcia
In a gesture of solidarity, a group of workers from FCC Environmental's Murcia-Almería office has collected 5,100 euro to help those affected by the earthquake in Lorca.
The city of Lorca, which saw some of its darkest days as a result of the May 2011 tremors, continues to suffer; according to the FCC employees: "We are trying to provide help so that the affected families can get back on track and move on."
The initiative reflects the philanthropic spirit of this group of workers, who have donated a portion of their wages to help those in need in Lorca.
They work in the following areas: waste collection and street cleaning in Nijar (Almería); waste collection and garden maintenance in Alhama de Murcia; cleaning of Repsol facilities; cleaning of parks and gardens, schools, and municipal premises, waste collection, street cleaning and sewage plant operation in Cartagena (Murcia); municipal solid waste collection in San Javier (Murcia); and facility cleaning in Almería.
On 20 December, José Alcolea Heras, head of FCC Environmental's Murcia-Almería office, presented the donation to Francisco Jódar, Mayor of Lorca.
The money was given to the Solidarity Board, which was created to manage donations to help the earthquake victims. The Board includes representatives from NGOs such as Caritas and Red Cross, the city government, consulates, etc.
