A swarm of bees rescued in the FCC Construcción Machinery Park
During a routine inspection at the FCC Construcción Machinery Park, a honeycomb of bees was found in the structure of a crane. This discovery was made when picking up and transporting the structure, where the bees were hidden in the honeycomb.
To deal with this situation in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, FCC Con-strucción contracted a company specialising in bee removal. The colony was seated in a narrow, elongated, rectangular hole in the crane structure, which required the crea-tion of a specific tool. In addition, an extension was adapted to the suction system, allowing the simultaneous extraction of comb and bees through the small opening.
The bees were carefully transported in cartridges designed specifically for this pur-pose, a system developed by the extraction company. The bees were then taken to a sanitary apiary, where they were treated and fed. This process not only ensures the safety of the workers and the continuity of the project, but also the protection and well-being of the bees, which are essential to our ecosystem.
