An employee of FCC Construcción, Jesús Romero Luque (head of production in Landscaping and Quality and Environment Technician), incorporates the promotion of biodiversity into two FCC Construcción projects: Butterfly Oasis 'Arroyo del Fresno' and Ecological Corridor 'Lilí Álvarez' . All of this was possible thanks to the intervention of FCC Construcción in Bosque Metropolitano (Madrid), derived from the renaturalization that is being carried out on the “Madrid Isla de Color” plots.

Both projects aim to make it easier for butterflies to complete their life cycles in an urban environment with the least possible anthropogenic interference, while creating a space of interest to citizens and supporting local conservation.

The plot under development of the project has a privileged location in terms of landscape ecology; both for connectivity, environmental quality and extension of natural and semi-natural areas, such as the Monte del Pardo Natural Reserve itself.

Based on this, the Spanish Association for the Protection of Butterflies and their Environment (ZERYNTHIA) was contacted to incorporate the intervention of FCC Construcción under the 'Butterfly Oasis' framework project, forming part of a georeferenced network of spaces that , voluntarily, contribute to the conservation and promotion of local butterflies by strengthening populations.

To do this, a seed mixture was designed to enrich the old meadow, maximizing the diversity of butterflies through flora species, which offer ecosystem services of regulation and supply, for the caterpillars (nutrition) and the imago (neciferous).

Regarding the commitment to management of the space, once a year the meadow will be cleared through selective mowing, respecting representative stands of withered meadow, to preserve the chrysalises that remain attached to the dry vegetation, so that a large part of the annual mortality of individuals, boosting already established populations along with migrant adults.

With these voluntary actions by the company's workers, the company's collective and individual commitment to sustainability is demonstrated once again.
