Cruz Roja and Tram of Murcia launch a campaign that highlights everything that Older People contribute to our society

With the invaluable support and support of Tram of Murcia, Cruz Roja has launched an awareness campaign to highlight the important contributions that older people make to our society. With the slogan 'Older. Much to contribute' Cruz Roja has “the challenge of focusing all our efforts on working so that we can effectively take advantage of the important knowledge and experience that older people have acquired over time and invest it in improving our society” confirmed María Teresa Sánchez Elduayen, regional president of Cruz Roja in the Region of Murcia. For the president of Cruz Roja, “the longevity of the population can never be perceived as something negative, since people live longer and with a better quality of life thanks to the important advances in Medicine and our social protection network and we must always interpret it in a positive key, hence Being Greater is the Most.”

Cruz Roja has been working for more than 30 years to improve the quality of life of elderly people through different programs and projects developed by paid staff and the essential volunteer team that the humanitarian organization has in the Region of Murcia, through the that more than 7,500 elderly people were assisted in the Region of Murcia during the past year 2022.

“At Cruz Roja, older people are an absolute priority and the attention we give them allows us to know, first-hand, the problems they face such as loneliness, lack of autonomy, situations of discrimination, abuse, etc. The world wants to have a happy, healthy and satisfactory old age, but this does not always happen this way, since certain habits, behaviors or attitudes, as well as the lack of information and training are key in this aspect, without forgetting the social environment that surrounds these people and that represent a fundamental pillar in their lives” highlights María Teresa Sánchez.

Also present during the presentation of the campaign was Carmen Chinchilla, president of Cruz Roja in the municipality of Murcia, who pointed out that “there are many activities that Cruz Roja volunteer teams will carry out in different municipalities of the Region of Murcia, and more specifically in the regional capital, with the reading of manifestos, sports and physical activities, as well as leisure and participation.” “We want older people to have the prominence they deserve. Growing up is a gift, a reward for what you have experienced and for everything that remains to be experienced.” So much so that Carmen Chinchilla insisted on the fact that “we must build a better society for older people, eliminating derogatory attitudes based on others based on good treatment of older people and today we want to value their contribution to life.” social, economic, cultural and political of the elderly, in addition to focusing on the challenges that the aging of its population poses for society,” concluded Chinchilla.

For its part, Tram of Murcia once again collaborates with Cruz Roja in this campaign that values the elderly. The company has always worked with an eye on this and other minority groups in the use of public transport, in order to offer a quality and fully accessible service.

Universal accessibility is still, in many points, a handicap for cities, which must be adapted so that they can be used, to their full extent, by all their inhabitants, and public transport plays a fundamental role in this. No group can be left behind, much less the elderly who continue to contribute the best of themselves to society. Murcia's Tram is committed to facilitating the use of public transport for all people, without distinction of any kind.

Furthermore, thanks to the rates available in the city, traveling by public transport for people over 65 years of age can be free, since if you have a pension equal to or less than €1,000, you can access the Murcia Bonus B-100 that allows you to use the tram, the urban bus or the district bus for free. One more way to facilitate the movement of older people, so that they can continue doing the best they have done before.

Since the beginning of operation in 2011, Tram of Murcia has been collaborating with different entities and foundations to improve the living conditions of all citizens, supporting the most disadvantaged people.

Tram of Murcia values and appreciates the work that Cruz Roja has been doing for many years, and hopes to continue collaborating with Cruz Roja in the future.
