Our work to build the new Section 5 and 6 A465 Heads of the Valleys dual carriageway in South Wales also includes a comprehensive engagement programme with local schools. The latest project was the Cyfarthfa Habitats Challenge.

This environmental challenge asked pupils to develop a solution that would protect one of the species that have been identified along the construction route of Section 5 and 6.

The five schools that took part were: Caedraw Primary School, Cyfarthfa Park Primary School, Coed-Y-Dderwen Community Primary School and Twynyrodyn Community School. On Thursday 20 July 2023, the pupils who took part in the Cyfarthfa Habitats Challenge found out who won.

Martin Gallimore, Communities Benefits Manager, along with a panel of judges, had the difficult decision of choosing the winning team. As the standard was high it was a difficult decision which resulted in the Cyfarthfa team being crowned as the winners.
