"DEMOLTECH", intelligent demolition and revalorisation processes for the generation of circular raw materials in urban environments
The FCC Construcción R&D&I project ‘DEMOLTECH’, financed by the State Re-search Agency, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and ERDF funds, is made up of the multidisciplinary, complementary and balanced consortium FCC Construcción (project leader), BECSA, INDUTEC and the CETIM and ITAIN-NOVA technology centres.
This project aims to resolve the technical barriers that have prevented the devel-opment of intelligent demolition. Its objective lies in the research for the develop-ment of an integral prototype for intelligent demolition, through the investigation of revaluation processes to generate circular raw materials in urban environ-ments. in the different phases of the cycle of a deconstruction project. In order to meet this general objective, seven specific technical objectives are proposed:
- Design and development of a Digital Twin to predict the volume of waste generat-ed.
- Develop a functional Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool for demolition materials to evaluate sustainable alternatives and make informed decisions on whether to use new or reused materials in each particular case.
- Development of a blockchain system for the certification of recycled materials and their recovery processes, promoting the digitisation of recycled materials for the incorporation of the information in the Digital Materials Passport.
- Research and development of an intelligent tool for the identification of materi-als in situ based on artificial vision, for the monitoring of demolition tasks and their incorporation into the Digital Twin.
- Development of an advanced tool for the separation of toxic and inert waste and separation of waste on site based on IoT and artificial vision solutions, for the au-tomation and digitisation of material records in accordance with current Waste Man-agement regulations.
- Development of on-site CDW applications of materials and composites for their revaluation.
- Integration of the above technological prototypes into an integral prototype demon-strator (TRL6) and on-site testing of the prototype demonstrator in quasi-real con-ditions to validate the experimental development advocated at DEMOLTECH. This will be carried out in a controlled site environment. FCC Construcción will make available to the project one of the pilots, which is the Soria Hospital site.
FCC Construcción continues to lead innovation in the construction sector, positioning the company as a true benchmark in circular economy and innovation.
The project is funded as part of the 2023 call for public aid for public-private collabo-ration projects under the State Programme to Promote Scientific-Technical Research and its Transfer, part of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Re-search 2021-2023.
