On 21 January, Ellen Cargill, Mayor of Halton, opened an exhibition at the Brindley Theatre (Runcorn) that includes illustrations by pupils at elementary schools in the town of Runcorn, an industrial town and cargo port located in the municipality of Halton on the southern banks of the River Mersey.

This event is part of the art program championed by the Halton Town council together with the consortium building the Mersey Bridge, and aims to get a feel of youngsters’ creative vision of the new bridge and road project in the town.

The program has enabled children from local schools to develop creative assignments with the guidance and support of professional artists about environmental issues, local history and the design and construction of the bridge.

The scheme is open to participation by any school that presents initiatives in any field of artistic expression, such as dance, theatre, music, poetry and visual arts.

The representative of the Halton Town Council for Artistic Development stated “this is a great opportunity for children to work with professional artists to produce works of art related to one of the largest engineering projects that has ever been undertaken in the history of the town of Halton”.
