Attending on behalf of FCC Construcción were the General Manager in Latin America, José María Torroja; General Manager of Central America, Manuel Antonio Olivares; Manager of Building, Juan Antonio del Saz, and the FCC Site Manager and staff.

FCC carried out the design and construction of the Luis "Chicho" Fábrega Hospital Centre, taking into account the highest standards in terms of health, thereby managing to achieve a flexible design, programmatic complexity, accessibility and adaptation to the needs of the community, environmental care, energy savings and possibility of growth.

This new hospital, which cost a total of B/ 164,684,287.63, has 328 hospital beds, covers a surface area of 46,460 m2 and will benefit more than 227,000 people who live in Veraguas and surrounding areas. Its main aim is to improve the health of the country's inland residents.

The building is spread out over 7 levels. Level -1 holds emergency services and the surgical block, which are accompanied and completed with departments of imaging, obstetrics unit, pharmacy, teaching and general hospital services (kitchen, launderette and utilities room).

On the ground floor there are labs, out-patient consultation rooms, haemodialysis, intensive care units, rehabilitation and neonatology, as well as the first floor of in-patient wards. Levels 2, 3 and 4 are used for the hospitalisation of various specialities. On the 5th floor there is an area where doctors on call can stay.

It is worth pointing out that the hospital has the new VARIOP system, which is a modular system of industrially pre-manufactured panels for the lining of operating theatres.

As for biomedical equipment, the hospital has the most modern equipment for X-rays, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasounds, computerised axial tomography and magnetic resonance.

Jose María Torroja highlighted the kindness of the hospital and thanked the Panamanian government for trusting in the ability and experience of FCC Construcción to carry out these types of works. "This is a hospital that will change the way of offering healthcare in the country's mainland", he said.

With this work project, FCC Construcción displays its extensive experience in the construction of hospitals around the world. The Group is currently constructing the hospital complex in Panama and has previously built Enniskillen Hospital in Northern Ireland, O'Donnell Maternity Hospital in Madrid, Torrejón de Ardoz Hospital and Arganda Hospital, among others.
