Improvements to the Puerto Nuevo – Quillaico route in Chile, carried out by FCC, stand at 55% completion

The FCC-led project currently underway in Los Ríos Region, 500 kilometres south of the city of Concepción, currently stands at 55% completion.

Improvements to the Puerto Nuevo – Quillaico route will connect the cities of La Unión and Lago Ranco by repairing the road, implementing new solutions and finishing the paving of the entire ring road of Lago Ranco. The project is driven by the Roads Directorate of the Ministry of Public Works and includes an investment of CLP $11.815 billion (US$ 19.25 million) [sic].

Works currently being carried out include filling material works on embankments and subgrades, as well as the placement of gravel layers and seals at different sections along the route, both on the shoulders and on the paved road. The construction of two bridges are also incorporated into the project; the first, 170 m long, is being erected in the Puerto Lapi area where the pile driving works have been completed and the focus has now shifted to the installation of the beams. Works on the viaduct's concrete slab and walkways on the second bridge in Quillín have been completed.

Jorge Alvial (Ministerial Regional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works) and Santiago Rosas (Mayor of Lago Ranco) both highlight the importance of this large-scale project that will substantially contribute to the rise in tourism in this region and will considerably improve the quality of life of inhabitants who live in the surrounding areas.
