The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, inaugurates the motorway between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas

This motorway stretches 38.7 km in length along the south coast of the state of Bajo California Sur, to the north-east of the Republic of Mexico and on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula.

The ceremony was led by the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and had participation from the Secretary of Communications and Transport, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza; the Governor of the State of Baja California Sur, Carlos Mendoza Davis; the Mayor of San José del Cabo, Arturo de la Rosa Escalante, among other important authorities.

Attending the ceremony on behalf of FCC were Enrique Díaz Valdés, country manager of FCC Construcción México and Juan Hernandez Carrillo, head of Construcción II department.

This 38.7 km-long infrastructure project had investment worth €147 million (2.5 billion pesos) and will benefit close to 238,000 people living in the towns of La Paz and Los Cabos.

This motorway is part of the priority infrastructure works to support Baja California Sur's commitment to tourism which crucially rests on:

  • Promoting tourist and commercial activity between both cities.
  • Decreasing the journey time between both cities by more than a half, from 40 minutes to 17 minutes.
  • Improving mobility between Los Cabos International Airport and the country's principal tourist spots.
