Wanda Metropolitano stadium, built by FCC, to host the 2019 Champions League final

The Wanda Metropolitano stadium will host the UEFA Champions League final at the end of the 2018–19 season. This week, UEFA's Executive Committee announced that the stadium built by FCC is to become the fourth Spanish venue to host the flagship fixture in European club football.

The Wanda Metropolitano was finally chosen over the Bakú Olympic Stadium (which will host the Europa League final), as well as Sevilla's Sánchez Pizjuán and Besiktas Park in Istanbul.

The committee's assessment report in early September shortlisted Atlético Madrid's new stadium as one of the best candidates to host the event, to be held on 1 June 2019.

The extensive parking areas surrounding the stadium, together with the facilities to house fans and disabled spectators, as well as Madrid's hotel and convenient transport facilities (airports and roads) proved to be decisive in UEFA's final choice to opt for the FCC-built facility.

Atlético Madrid’s new home occupies 88,150 square metres of land, with a capacity for more than 68,000 spectators, including a VIP area. It also has more than 1,000 public parking spaces in the stadium itself and another 3,000 spaces outside.
