Students at USMA visit the ongoing works by FCC Construcción at Ciudad de la Salud in Panama
In collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Santa María La Antigua University (USMA) in Panama, FCC Construcción have organised a visit to the "Ciudad de la Salud" [hospital] facilities for a group of 47 university students.
The objective of this visit was to show the students the important new construction methods used in this project.
The engineer Marlon Sing, head of studies at FCC Construcción and lecturer in Innovation and Technology in Civil Engineering at USMA, asked his students to write a report on the visit and the project.
The project visit focused on two sections: the first was explanatory and was given by the engineer Miguel Hill who explained the project, its composition, the technical aspects and relevance the works has for the country; and the second part was with the engineer Gregorio Gómez who led a visit around the different areas: emergency services, operating theatres, out-patient consultation rooms and the main atrium, amongst others.
Moreover, Gómez further explained aspects such as the metal and concrete structures, the ceilings, the door finishes, as well as the lighting in the hospital corridors.
During the visit, the students were amazed at the sheer magnitude and complexity of the project and showed interest in it continuing, since, as they are aware, it will greatly benefit the field of health. They were also impressed by the construction of the works, where professionals from Spain and Panama have contributed their expertise.
One of FCC's core objectives is to create value in the communities where it operates and, within this framework, to support students' training in all countries where it is present, since, in this way, it contributes to the training and development of future professionals.
