FCC Construcción Chile completes the Mapocho Río park project
FCC Construcción Chile has completed the Mapocho Río park project. The Mapocho Río Park is located in the western sector of the city of Santiago de Chile and is one of the most extensive, important and modern urban regeneration projects in the country. It has an area of 52 hectares and 9 kilometers in length. FCC Construcción Chile has developed sections 1 and 2, located in Quinta Normal and 3 to 5 in Cerro Navia.
The design of Mapocho Río Park was the result of more than 2 thousand participations, distributed in 12 territorial dialogues, five consultations at fairs, three workshops with children and adolescents, and an online survey.
Mapocho Río is a project through which we seek to recover and revitalize the southern bank of this river in the western sector of Santiago, in the communes of Quinta Normal and Cerro Navia. This is the largest urban work project with green areas contemplated in the current program of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and the second largest urban project at the national level.
FCC Construcción's social commitment has been developed through joint actions and activities with institutions and especially with local communities. The residents have been informed, disseminated and encouraged to participate, and have been very satisfied with the work carried out by the project teams deployed on the ground.
The first section, which is the continuation of the family park to the Los Suspiros Bridge, was inaugurated in September 2021 and today is under the administration and conservation of Parquemet, an institution dependent on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.
This includes a multi-court, sports equipment, outdoor gym, dog park, picnic area, children's games, green areas, cycle path and a large skatepark bowl designed by the National Professional Skateboarding Association of Chile.
At the end of July 2023, the residents of Quinta Normal were able to enjoy the second section of the park, one of the most anticipated due to its innovative facilities. This section has a skatedrome, a structure that has served as a training venue for the Parapan American Games that will be held in Chile at the end of this year. It has a climbing wall, a soccer field with fully equipped dressing rooms, multi-court, bike path, calisthenics circuit, exercise machines, water games, children's games, SlackLine area among others.
In this last stage, sections three, four and five add new recreational and sports facilities for the Cerro Navia neighborhood.
Section 3 highlights the following facilities: athletics track, outdoor gym, parking area; cycle path, water games, amphitheater, picnic area. Also, the Mapuche Ceremonial Center is located.
Regarding section 4, the landscaping, the reflecting pool, the natural amphitheater and the children's games stand out. The importance of this section lies in the protection docks against potential river flooding. In this section, the first Monument in honor of the Women of Chile called “Weaving identities” is located, which was the winner in a contest promoted by the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality.
Section 5 includes a greater amount of sports infrastructure. This section has the second Skatepark, the second soccer field; four multi-courts, which are equipped to play baby soccer, volleyball, basketball and tennis.
One of the relevant aspects of Parque Mapocho Río is the planting of more than 4,000 trees, in addition to various first-class recreational and sports facilities, which will raise the standard of the western sector of Santiago de Chile. Now, the residents of the surrounding communities will have a space for recreation, sports, environmental education and encounters with nature for the whole family and especially for the new generations.
FCC Construcción has executed one of the most important social and environmental infrastructures in the country. An authentic urban regeneration project.
