FCC Construcción is making progress on the completion of the new prison in the Zona Franca, an open prison with 800 places and a total floor area of approximately 17,026.65 square metres. 

The prison consists of two distinct parts. On the one hand, the administrative and support services, which make up the outer area and a large part of the mixed area, are located on the ground floor and form the front façade of the building. On the other hand, two equivalent and symmetrical residential modules are located longitudinally at the rear of the site.

The open prison will open in 2026 and will house prisoners currently held in Trinitat Vella and Wad-Ras. Upon completion, the building will comply with all BREEAM sustainable building standards, with a Very Good/Excellent rating.
