FCC Construcción has carried out the first blasting of the NEOM Spine Infrastructure Project – Running Tunnels (Mountain Section) Lots 2 and 3.

This constitutes the first milestone developed in the Western Runnings Tunnel construction project. This project is being executed by FCS Tunnels JV formed by the companies FCC Construcción, China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited and Shib Al Jazira Contracting Company, together with the design company AECON and the supervision of the company BECHTEL.

The explosion occurred at 2 p.m. and was witnessed by representatives of NEOM, General Security Forces (GSF) Provice of Tabuk, AECON, BECHTEL and members of FCS Tunnels JV.

This milestone marks the beginning of the construction of the two 15.8 km long twin tunnels, 19 connecting galleries between the two tunnels and three vertical ventilation shafts. The completion of the project is scheduled for April 2026.
