FCC Construcción contributes to the sculpture honouring engineer Agustín de Betancourt

FCC Construcción, alongside other construction firms, has contributed to the sculpture honouring engineer Agustín de Betancourt. Betancourt was a figure who left his mark on Spanish history, bringing about a decisive transformation of the country and, in particular, the city of Madrid. The monument, a bronze statue on a granite pedestal, is an initiative of the Association of Civil Engineers to commemorate Agustín de Betancourt on the bicentenary of his death, to be marked in 2024. The sculpture is situated in a landscaped area at 7 Agustín de Betancourt Street, in the Chamberí district.

Agustín de Betancourt y Molina (Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, 1758–St Petersburg, 1824) was one of the great engineers and inventors of the Spanish Enlightenment and a key figure in the development of modern engineering. His professional career spanned Spain and several European countries. He founded the Corps of Civil Engineers in 1799 and the School of Civil Engineers in 1802, institutions that were fundamental to the development of civil engineering in Spain. He was also highly active internationally in France, England and Russia. In Russia, he held important responsibilities in the areas of infrastructure and state technical planning. His work spanned a wide range of fields, from civil engineering and public infrastructure to innovations in the fields of mechanics, energy and telecommunications.
