FCC Construcción completes the enlargement of Arrecife Harbour (Lanzarote
FCC Construcción has completed the enlargement of the Naos quay in Arrecife Harbour (Lanzarote). This project will be able to cover the operations of the regular line and roll-on/roll-off vessels that dock at Los Mármoles quay in certain wind and wave situations. It solves an operational problem for the Armas and Fred Olsen companies, which currently share a single berth on the Mármoles quay that cannot be used by both companies at the same time, causing delays in their operations.
The work consisted of extending the berthing line of the Naos Quay by 149.70 linear metres, with an operating area width of 13.10 metres and a 37 metre x 30.5 metre ro-ro ramp. The extension of the mooring line has been carried out thanks to the construction of seven caissons, five of which make up the main alignment, one serves as a heel for the execution of the ro-ro ramp and another one serves as a connection between the new dock and the existing counter dock.
The project has also widened the Naos southern counterdike, which gives access to the extension of the Naos quay, to create two roads, one entrance and one exit road of four metres each, with one-metre verges on both sides. In addition, a mooring point has been added by means of a mooring buoy located to the south of the new quay, allowing vessels of up to 200 metres in length to moor.
Channels have also been laid for lighting, low voltage, supply and telecommunications services, the access gate has been replaced by an eight-metre wide double gate, a new three-metre high marine aluminium perimeter fence has been erected along 20 metres of demolished seawall, horizontal road markings have been installed and vertical signage has been put in place.
