FCC Construcción completes the enlargement of Naos Dock in Lanzarote

FCC Construcción has completed the Naos Dock enlargement project in Lanzarote. The project, valued at 12 million euro, will improve the island of Lanzarote's connectivity with the rest of the Canary Islands, as it will enable regular liner and roll-on/roll-off cargo ships to dock safely in inclement weather. With this new berth, which is much more sheltered, ships will be able to operate in complete safety, guaranteeing the absolute connectivity of the island of Lanzarote for both passengers and goods.

In addition, this new dock will allow the Fred Olsen and Armas companies to operate at the same time, thus improving the connection frequencies between the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The project has extended the berthing line of the Naos Quay by 149.70 linear metres, with an operating area width of 13.10 metres and a ro-ro ramp of 37 metres x 30.5 metres. The extension of the berthing line has been carried out thanks to the construction of seven caissons. Five of them form the main alignment, one serves as a heel for the execution of the ro-ro ramp and another one serves as a connection between the new quay and the existing counter dock.

The southern counterdike of Naos, which gives access to the extension of the Naos Quay, has also been widened to create two roads, one entrance and one exit road of four metres each, with one-metre verges on both sides. In addition, a mooring point has been added by means of a mooring buoy located to the south of the new quay, allowing vessels of up to 200 metres in length to moor.

Likewise, the channelling for the lighting, low voltage, supply and telecommunications services has been installed; the access gate has been replaced by an eight-metre wide double gate, a new three-metre high perimeter fence of marine aluminium has been installed along 20 metres of demolished seawall, horizontal road markings have been installed and vertical signage has been put in place.
