FCC Construcción completes the excavation of the rescue gallery

FCC Construcción completes the excavation of the rescue gallery of the Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri tunnel, in the El Toyo sector. The rescue gallery, 9.8 kilometers long, is a tunnel that is built parallel to the main tunnel and serves to quickly and safely deal with any emergency that occurs in the infrastructure.

The rescue gallery section is 25 square meters, and it is linked to the main tunnel through 40-meter-long connection galleries, located every 400 meters.
Regarding the main tunnel, at the end of this year it will reach 9,730 meters in length, and it will enter into operation in 2025, making it the longest tunnel in America.

The Guillermo Gaviria Echeverri Tunnel and its access roads are part of the Prosperity Highways executed by the Government of Colombia through its fourth generation road program.

The purpose of the project is to improve connections with Medellín and Urabá in Antioquia. In short, to connect the department of Antioquia with the center of the country, the Pacific and Atlantic Coast, also managing to optimize transport and facilitate foreign trade, as well as the flows of products and merchandise destined for the Colombian market.

The entire project has an approximate length of 39.5 kilometers. Its design will allow it to reach a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, allowing a reduction in travel times to Urabá from Medellín in 4.5 hours; the project will be a benchmark for engineering.
