FCC Construcción completes the project "Duplication N-338 of access to the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport"

FCC Construcción completes the project "Duplication N-338 of access to the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport"

FCC Construcción has executed 5 km of the duplication of the N-338 highway, which until now was a conventional one-lane road for each direction of traffic.

The new highway significantly improves access to the 5th airport in Spain, with 15 million passengers and more than 100,000 operations in 2019.

This highway, designed to improve mobility in the metropolitan area of Alicante and Elche, will contribute to improving road safety conditions and traffic flow. It also supposes an access according to the needs.

In this section there are four important junctions: with the N-332, which is the main coastal corridor in the province to the south of the city of Alicante; access to the airport; with the N-340, which gives access to the Alicantina Fair Institution, the town of Torrellano and the Elche Industrial Park; and with the A-70, Alicante Ring Road.

For the duplication of the road, it was necessary to demolish 3 existing overpasses that did not have enough clearance for the new highway. Maintaining traffic at all times and minimizing the impact on users have been the priorities throughout the work and, especially, in these demolitions.

4 new viaducts have been built: 3 of them on the Murcia-Alicante commuter rail line and another on the N-340. 2 overpasses have also been built: 1 for the service road and the second for the replacement of the bike lane between Alicante and Torrellano and for the replacement of a livestock path. 3.5 km of service roads have been executed to guarantee access to neighboring properties. In addition, an enclosure fence, acoustic protection screens and safety barriers with protection systems for motorcyclists have been installed.
