FCC Construcción completes the new Barcelona Port building

FCC Construcción has completed the new building known as the Fisherman's Market. These facilities will substantially improve the facilities available to the Barcelona Fishermen's Guild, and they will also make it possible to bring the work of this group and seafaring culture closer to the public.

The new building replaces the old fish market and incorporates spaces for the public to follow the live auction of blue fish, as well as a new restaurant serving quality Mediterranean cuisine linked to the sea. The new building has a surface area of 3,233 square metres and a 140-metre exterior ramp that allows differentiated access to the spaces open to the public, located on the first floor, where there is also a perimeter terrace that offers privileged views of the docking points of the fishermen's boats and the Port Vell in general.

The new fish market and the future opening to the public of the Fisherman's Wharf are one of the major projects promoted by the Port of Barcelona as part of the major transformation that the Port Vell is undergoing.

The large energy community of the Pescadors quay makes use of the existing roof surfaces to locate a system of solar panels to power the various facilities on the quay (ice factory, fish market, etc.). Overall, this Community can generate 376 MWh per year. This is an electricity generation project with shared consumption that will allow the compressors that produce the industrial cold in the ice factory to be powered with renewable energy, reducing the energy consumption of this installation. One of the great advantages of this new structure is that it will make it possible to connect the generation of renewable energy from solar panels directly with consumers, guaranteeing the development of fishing activity in Barcelona under criteria of sustainability and competitiveness. This energy community is made up of three sets of photovoltaic panels: the first, on the roof of the fish market with the capacity to generate 170.5 MWh per year; the second on the roof of the pergola that provides shade in the net yard, with the capacity to generate 161.7 MWh per year, and which is 70% financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA). This second one has just been installed and is awaiting connection. And finally, the third, in the huts surrounding the network yard, with a capacity of 43 MWh per year.
