FCC Construcción completes the demolition of the old Clinical Hospital of Salamanca (Spain)

FCC Construcción has completed the demolition of the old Clinical Hospital of Salamanca (Spain). The Outpatient, Research and Teaching Building will be built on this surface.

The demolition began in the middle of the year 2022 and consisted of the following stages:

  • Emptying the Hospital
  • Elimination of items detected with asbestos content
  • Demolition of the Building
  • Separation of different types of demolition waste for recovery, or transport to landfill
  • Demolition of the foundations of the Building

The activity has generated 91,300 tons of debris; 3,659 tons of material with asbestos; more than 2,512 tons of metals; 360 tons of wood; 66 tons of electrical equipment and 19 tons of glass.

FCC Construcción has designed and built the University Hospital of Salamanca, one of the largest in the country.
The built hospital consists of:

  • 793 beds, with a maximum occupancy of 901
  • 101 day hospital posts
  • 90 positions in ICU
  • 25 operating rooms
  • 39 resuscitation stations
  • 33 resuscitation posts in CMA
  • 15 rooms in the obstetric block (1 high-risk operating room)
  • 90 emergency stations
  • 7 radiotherapy rooms (4 accelerators, brachytherapy, special techniques)
  • 30 diagnostic imaging rooms
  • 9 hemodynamic rooms
  • 5 nuclear medicine rooms (3 gamma cameras, densitometer, PET)
  • 194 external consultations
  • 68 exploration cabinets
  • 46 dialysis stations
  • 3,200 m2 of laboratories
  • 2,150 m2 of teaching and research
