FCC Construcción wins runner-up prize in the bridges category at the ACHE awards

ACHE held its seventh international structures conference, which is held every three years, on 20 and 22 June in La Coruña.

The awards won by this unique structure include the Gustav Lindenthal medal, which was awarded earlier this year by the IBC to FCC Construcción.

The viaduct over the river Almonte, between the municipal districts of Alcántara and Garrovillas (Cáceres province), is one of the most significant feats of Spanish engineering in recent years. Because of its characteristics and size, it will be a benchmark for HST lines worldwide.

The viaduct is 996 m long and has been designed with a central lower concrete arch with a span of 384 m, setting a new span record for this type of arch intended for HST use. If we take into account the global ranking for concrete arches for rail and road use, it is among the largest in the world.
