FCC Construcción wins the construction contract for the new pediatric tower at the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands
FCC Construcción has won the construction contract for the new pediatric tower at the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands.
The execution of the works on the new tower for pediatric care, as well as for Gynecology and Obstetrics in the health area, correspond to phase II of the expansion and reform project of the Complejo Universitario Insular-Materno Infantil. The project has an execution period of 36 months and a budget of 48 million euros.
The new tower of the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands is developed on nine floors, of which two are below ground level and seven are high. Due to the complexity of the work, it will be carried out with the hospital in operation, without cessation of activity, it will be divided into three phases and a fourth for urbanization. Therefore, the work contemplates demolishing current buildings and relocating the services that until now have been provided in these facilities (laundry, linen, maintenance and warehouses) in other units of the Hospital Complex, since the building will house the units of Neonatology, Comprehensive Care of Oncology and Hematology, hospitalization plants for infants, Pediatrics and surgery, a unit for Brief Hospitalization for Children and Youth, Rehabilitation and a Breast unit, among other services.
Thus, the new Pediatrics tower will be connected to the two hospital buildings already in operation (the Torre del Mar and the original Maternity building).
