FCC Construcción has obtained honorable mention in the Agustín de Betancourt awards in the Canary Islands, for the project "maritime front of Sta. Cruz de la Palma". The front of Santa Cruz de La Palma had as part of its littoral facade a rubbish dump that was used as a parking lot; the rest of the maritime avenue was bordered by a boardwalk that was sometimes overrun by the sea, flooding the lower floors of the houses.

The purpose of the project was to create a new beach on the seafront of Santa Cruz de La Palma, to respond to the existing demand in the city and improve the protection of the seafront of it.

The work executed by FCC Construcción, consisted in the creation of a sandy beach in the central area of the coastal front, wedged between two breakwaters and supported on its foot in a submerged dam.

At the southern end of the action there is a beach with thick boulders, due to the great difficulties for the creation of a sandy beach due to the steep slope of the bottom.

In the far north, the alignment of the start of the north breakwater has remained parallel to the coast and another beach of callaos has been created behind it, giving a solution to the problems of overflowing the seafront wall in that section.

With this award-winning project, FCC Construcción has integrated a partially degraded and underutilized area, within the structure of the city, for the use and enjoyment of the citizens of Sta. Cruz de la Palma.
