FCC Construcción participates in the Climate Infrastructure Forum

FCC Construcción has participated in the most important international infrastructure sustainability event of the year: Climate Infrastructure Forum. The event brought together more than 50 climate change experts from international, public and private organizations.

The objective of this forum is to make a political statement that includes the perspectives of different communities to promote the agenda on climate change in the political agenda in circles such as the G-7, G-20 or the United Nations. FCC Construcción was represented by the Quality and CSR Director, A. Burgueño, who developed a session titled Metrics for Sustainable Infrastructure: Defining the Boundaries, Unlocking Institutional Investment.

In the international forum the investment of 90 billion dollars (82 billion euros) up to 2030 in sustainable infrastructures throughout the world was claimed. The executive director of the Climate Infrastucture Partnership (CLIP) which includes the forum, Luigi Carafa, explained that by 2035 the global infrastructure will double, so "a systematic and real change in the construction of low-carbon infrastructure is necessary , resilient and sustainable."

70% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide come from the construction and infrastructure operations, of which "the generation and transportation of electricity - the majority coming from fossil fuels - is the main concern, as well as the construction of bridges, buildings, roads, among others ".

The coordinator of Mission 2020 and former Executive Secretary of Climate Change of the United Nations, Christiana Figueres, has highlighted the "need and urgency" to move to resilient infrastructure, "especially to resist natural disasters caused mainly by change climate". Figueres has stressed that the Paris agreement has been a milestone for the fight of climate change, but "it is not enough, now the implementation is lacking and, although we are late, we have to work twice as hard to fight it, to maintain the optimal conditions so that We can continue to live on this planet, which will continue to exist, whether or not we are in it. " "We are on track to exceed the carbon budget and block global warming to 1.5 ° C in less than 12 years, however, when it comes to infrastructures, the window of opportunity is smaller." Once an infrastructure project is built , the resulting emissions will be maintained throughout the life cycle of the project with an average of 20 to 40 years ", has been assured by different speakers.
