FCC Construcción participates in the European congress "Futureports"

FCC Construcción participated in the European congress "Futureports", held in Bilbao from February 12 to 14.

More than 35 shipowners and shipyards and a hundred speakers have participated in this event, which has included in the same forum the four areas of the sector: the naval in Sinaval, the fishing in Eurofishing, the port in Futureport and the marine renewable energy at Marine Energy Week.

During the three days of the event, World Maritime Week has become "a great training and learning school ship" in which nearly 2,000 people "have listened to the reflections of the main shipowners and international businessmen about the present and the future of the so-called blue economy ".

This industry, which, according to the latest report of the European Union, accredits a turnover of 566,000 million euros, generates 174 million added value and creates jobs for almost 3.5 million people. Spain has achieved a recognized position in the port sector, the current infrastructure allows the development and implementation of new business models that benefit and can be better used by the main players such as freight forwarders, shipping companies, stevedoring companies, terminalistas, operators and carriers.

FCC Construcción was represented by Francisco Esteban, Technical Director of SSTT of FCC Construcción. In a round table entitled "Green Ports" and made up of Policy Officer - European Commission; Traffic Manager - Finnlines Plc and General Secretary - Baltic Ports; the progress of "sustainable" ports was discussed. The growing concern of society and public and private administrations has led to greater awareness regarding environmental protection.

This growing concern has also reached the ports sector, which has to comply with safety and environmental protection regulations in its facilities as in any other industry. The future of a port and its industry depends on the correct relationship between three factors: economic, social and environmental.

The construction area of the FCC Group has numerous maritime and fluvial works of great technical complexity in its portfolio throughout the world. To do this, it has machinery in its possession and a Technical Services team capable of innovating in each of its projects and following up on all its works throughout the world. It has executed more than 44 kilometers of dykes, more than 32 kilometers of docks, more than 873 boxes built in port extensions.
