Medellin has numerous advantages for foreign investors that make the city and metropolitan region an optimal place to invest. There are three free zones where tax advantages are patent for companies and tax benefits on municipal taxes for foreign investment are highlighted. It also has excellent connectivity through its two airports and three seaports in the Atlantic. At the present time, there are new opportunities for trade and investment in the infrastructure, renewable energy and mobility, ICT, chemical industry, manufacturing and agrifood sectors, among others, that may be of interest to Spanish companies operating in Colombia or intend to expand internationally in that country.
Spain is a representative country in the dynamics of foreign direct investment in the world. According to trends for this year, it is among the top 10 countries with the most investment projects in the world. Regarding investment in Colombia, in 2018 Spain was in fourth place; and specifically in Medellín, it is among the top 15 with the highest investment participation.
