FCC Construcción participates in an informative breakfast with the General Secretary of Infrastructures of MITMA

FCC Construcción has participated in an informative breakfast with the General Secretary of Infrastructures of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

José Antonio Madrazo Salas, director of Spain, Portugal and the Industrial Area at FCC Construcción, and Manuel López, Global Director of the Traffic and Infrastructure Business at Indra, accompanied Francisco Xavier in his speech. In the first place, José Antonio Madrazo stated that, at a difficult time like this, "we are all affected by political events and, furthermore, the sector is especially sensitive. However, I believe that this situation is radically different from others that we have experienced”. He assures that this time it has to do "with the objectives, plans and roadmaps that we have on the table or the challenges of the sector". "All of this conditions our activity and the independence of the political movements of the countries."

The General Secretary of MITMA Infrastructures has highlighted the changes they have made, which they intend to address and which they will continue to carry out with the same intensity. Some changes to which the Administration must also adapt, much more efficient with the environment and "empathic with all sectors to be able to solve all problems with common sense". In this line, he has highlighted the importance of planning and foresight when setting the objectives of our infrastructures; "We must think about the strategy and how to adapt the instruments to the challenges posed."

Railway

"Mercandías 30 indicates the way to obtain the 10% benefit", Francisco Xavier Flores has also stressed. Success, according to the secretary, depends on private companies: "We will be able to put more means, which we will put, but it is the companies that must be successful." He has sided with the companies, emphasizing their protection and “taking care of the companies”, since “their failure is our failure. And their success is ours too."
In the same way, he has stressed the importance of environmental benefits, balancing their importance with those from which "citizens who use the railway should benefit".

Within the railway sector, the goal pursued by the Indicative Strategy is to take the first steps in the construction of a coherent and effective system, with social, environmental and economic efficiency objectives, while Mercancías 30 articulates a series of investments and projects with the aim of objective of doubling the share of trains in land freight transport.

Energy efficiency
On the other hand, Francisco Xavier Flores has launched a question that he himself has been in charge of answering: “Does the perfect project model make sense? Can't we copy models that work outside and allow us to succeed as soon as possible? This will not only make us more efficient, but we will also save time, save, reduce indirect costs and allow us to digitize and develop”.

The secretary has made reference to the Energy Efficiency Strategy of the State Highway Network (RCE), to reduce energy consumption by 50% between 2022 and 2028. Specifically, the Ministry plans to invest some 510 million euros in modernizing the lighting system, generate savings in energy demand and be less dependent on fossil fuels. For this reason, he emphasizes the fact of having become "the first to register the carbon footprint." Although he acknowledges that he is still in the process of learning and adapting, he explains that they continue "working to improve their position and, of course, to mitigate and reduce it." All of this framed within the importance of improving energy efficiency and committing to "continue to surpass ourselves and include infrastructure in social demand, both in large works and in all others".
