FCC Construcción has participated in the institutional visit, organized by the Delegated Area of Urban Development of the Madrid City Council, to the Metropolitan Forest project.

During the visit, many of the actions were toured, in which the company develops the most important arboreal project in Spain: parcela municipal en Valverde, Bosque de los Abrazos Perdidos, Nueva Centralidad del Este, Cerro Almodóvar, Butarque y el río Manzanares, Campamento.

Metropolitan Forest is a green infrastructure that will extend over 75 kilometers in the city of Madrid, which will contribute to the rebalancing of the city, the reduction of CO2 emissions, the fight against climate change, the ecological restoration and landscaping of degraded areas and to increase the offer of pedestrian and cycling itineraries, as well as benefiting the health of the population.

It is a forest belt that will circumnavigate the city of Madrid, relying on the green areas classified by urban planning, both executed and pending execution, in order to form a green corridor located within the municipality of Madrid and running more or less close to the edge of the term municipal and seeking the greatest possible ecological and spatial continuity.

It will be made up of autochthonous species, representative of our natural heritage, that are adapted to the conditions of our municipality and to the expected climate change scenarios, such as holm oaks, poplars, wild olives, strawberry trees, pines, carob trees, willows, ash trees, elms and other tree species, accompanied by brooms, hawthorns, oleanders, rosemary, thyme, junipers, rockroses and other shrubs and bushes.

The forest masses will be accompanied by trails for walking and practicing sports, rest areas and other facilities that contribute to their use, recreation and enjoyment by the citizens.

To guarantee its continuity, ecoducts (green bridges) are also contemplated that allow the main transport infrastructures to be saved at certain points and contribute to the ecological and functional continuity of the corridor and the parts that make it up.

FCC Construcción is an important asset for the development of the project.
