FCC Construcción participates in the Ninth Global Forum on Engineering and Public Works
FCC Construcción, through the Director of Spain, Portugal and the industrial area, Jose A Madrazo, has participated in the Ninth Global Forum on Engineering and Public Works; specifically in the round table "Water and Climate Change".
A key table where data has been exposed such as that 35% of Spain is in a prolonged drought. In the hydrological year 2022-2023 there has been 26% less accumulated rainfall. The environmental, water and energy challenges are linked to important food and depopulation challenges, which already affect developed countries such as Spain. For this reason, the need to agree on a State Pact for water has been exposed, which allows us to manage this resource efficiently and guarantee its availability.
Today's society demands increasing volumes of water and higher quality. This is the reason for the permanent investment effort made by the Public Administrations in the construction of large dams, canals, transfers, channel defense works, drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants and desalination plants for sea.
The construction area of the FCC Group has had a constant presence in the creation of these infrastructures, it has executed more than 48 dams and has performed actions on more than 11 existing dams. It has also built more than 98 water treatment plants of various types (74 WWTP, 10 EDAM, 14 DWTP), having carried out 39 actions in already existing water treatment plants. All of them thanks to the high level of the engineers, the construction management and the firm commitment of the FCC Group's construction area to investment in technology and innovation.
In addition, it has executed more than 10,500 kilometers of water pipes (2,500 kilometers for supply, 5,700 kilometers for irrigation and 2,000 kilometers for sanitation, 300 kilometers for other pipes) thus being able to structure a water distribution network within everyone's reach.
