FCC Construcción puts the new Nudo Norte viaduct into service
FCC Construcción puts into service a new viaduct in the Nudo Norte, which will allow direct connection between the Carretera de Colmenar (M-607) and Paseo de la Castellana. This viaduct, through which it is estimated that some 20,000 vehicles circulate a day, has been designed to eliminate the braiding that occurs between the M-607 at the height of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital and Calle-30 from Avenida de la Ilustracion, and that connects those vehicles that are heading towards the Nudo Norte towards Paseo de la Castellana or M-11/M-30.
This solution will allow the direct flow of all the traffic coming from the M-607 from areas as densely populated as Tres Cantos, Montecarmelo, Mirasierra or Herrera Oria, and who want to go to Paseo de la Castellana. Likewise, the vehicles that circulate along Calle 30 from Av. De la Ilustracion, will continue along it without any type of interference, and can in turn go to La Castellana through the exit currently in use, in the surroundings of the Hospital de la Peace.
It is a 206 meter long viaduct of mixed typology, distributed in spans of 36-62-68-40 m span. In plan it presents a curved alignment with a radius of 500 m, with a platform width of 7.3 m divided into a 4 m lane and left and right hard shoulders of 0.5 and 1.5 m respectively. The deck is made up of a metal box with a trapezoidal section and variable depth, between the 1.7 m span center and the 3.1 m piers, on which a 25 cm thick reinforced concrete slab rests; In order to have a double mixed action in the pier area, a slab connected to the lower part of the section is executed in an approximate length of ¼ of the span from the support section.
In addition, this action has been used to reforest the green slope that separates Calle Pedro Rico and Calle 30, by planting 50 specimens, mainly evergreen and leafy, which will act as a visual and acoustic screen. to nearby buildings, trying to minimize and reduce the acoustic impact of Calle 30 on the environment, in line with the improvements already planned for the works, but this being an action not initially contemplated and therefore improving the expected results with the action .
Finally, this viaduct incorporates an innovative lighting system, integrated into the containment systems of the viaduct itself, which will guide traffic along the circulation lane, thus allowing once the works are finished the elimination of the existing high-rise poles. right now in the node, thus solving the problems of light pollution that these caused for the residents of the area.
