FCC Construcción starts the first storm tank in Córdoba
FCC Construcción starts the first storm tank in Córdoba. The mayor of the city, José María Bellido, has presided over the ceremony to lay the first stone of some actions that will take place on the Balcón del Guadalquivir.
The storm tank is an enclosure measuring 105 by 45 meters and with a maximum depth of nine meters, which is built to capture all the excess water that occurs during times of heavy rain and which has the capacity to store 23,170 cubic meters of water.
This infrastructure will be launched with two objectives, that of preventing the discharge of water with waste into the Guadalquivir - specifically that coming from the collectors in the neighborhoods of San Lorenzo, Cañero and the Fairgrounds area -, thus reducing the pollution of the river. , and to avoid flow peaks at the La Golondrina wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
In addition, it is also implemented with the aim of reducing the possibility of flooding in cases where the water runoff capacity is less than the volume of rain. Specifically, this infrastructure will solve the problem of flooding that occurs in the southeast area and part of the city center when heavy rainfall occurs.
The water that reaches the storm tank due to excess rain will later be pumped to the Golondrina WWTP for treatment and regeneration. These waters will be emptied into the tank thanks to new inlet collectors from San Lorenzo, Cañero and the Fairgrounds. In the event that the storm tank is overflowed by an excessive amount of water, the works provide for an emergency spillway.
