FCC Construcción wins the construction project for the A-73 motorway (Burgos-Aguilar de Campoo)

FCC Construcción has won the construction project for the A-73 motorway between Burgos and Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia). The project has a budget of more than 89 million euros and an execution period of 36 months. This section constitutes the extension of the Burgos-Quintanaortuño section on the A-73 motorway, and represents another milestone in the promotion of this infrastructure, whose Pedrosa de Valdelucio-Báscones de Valdivia section was put into service at the end of last year, in Burgos and Palencia provinces.

The A-73 Burgos-Aguilar de Campoo highway will contribute to improving communication between the eastern part of Castilla y León with Cantabria and the Cantabrian corridor. This corridor will connect, at its initial end, with the Burgos ring road, BU-30, and will connect at its final end with the A-67 Cantabria-Meseta motorway, in its Aguilar de Campoo bypass section.

The layout of the Quintanaortuño-Montorio section, with an approximate length of 11.55 km, begins at the Quintanaortuño junction, giving continuity to the section in service of the A-73 Variante de Quintanilla de Vivar (Burgos) - Quintanaortuño and runs separating from the N-627 road to the northwest, moving away from the urban center of Ubierna. Likewise, a provisional connection with the N-627 has been planned at the end of the section.

With regard to the structures, the following have been projected: a viaduct over the Ubierna river, 3 overpasses, 8 underpasses and an ecoduct over the highway layout. In addition, roads parallel to the trace are arranged for access to neighboring farms and maintenance of cross-sectional permeability.

In order to minimize the environmental impact, the route of the motorway has been adjusted towards the western slope, minimizing the volume of excavated material and that of borrowings and landfills.
