FCC Construcción's Barcelona Tram urban development project has been named best infrastructure in Catalonia in 2024 at the 9th edition of Infrastructure Night, organised by the Catalan Infrastructure Advisory Council (Cadic).

The unification of the two tram lines — the Trambaix and the Trambesòs — via Avenida Diagonal represents a key milestone in the modernisation of Catalonia. The first phase of the implementation of the unified tram network and its urbanisation represents a strategic advance in metropolitan mobility. The new service covers approximately 2 km, from Plaça de les Glòries to Carrer Girona, integrating the Eixample with the Besòs metropolitan area. This new connection will add 24,000 passengers per day and could reduce private vehicle traffic by up to 2,000 vehicles on the central section of Diagonal. It also incorporates a pioneering catenary-free system, powered by a third flush-mounted rail, the first time this technological solution has been implemented on trams in Spain.
